Into the Light: GONE GIRLS, LOST GIRLS and Other Films by Liz Garbus
DETAILS
In the new three-part Netflix docuseries Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer, two-time Academy Award®-nominated and Emmy-winning director Liz Garbus returns to a story that inspired her 2020 narrative feature debut, Lost Girls. Both works take a probing look at the case of the “Long Island serial killer”, which involved more than a dozen unsolved murders of young women who worked in the sex industry from New York City and Long Island, and is still developing in real time.
The deeply humane, incisive way Garbus explores this story in both works is emblematic of her decades-long career in the documentary space. The Paris Theater is proud to present the series Into the Light: Gone Girls, Lost Girls and Other Films by Liz Garbus, a collection of some of Garbus’ most profound and celebrated works. Whether exploring the effects of incarceration on some of America’s most vulnerable populations, or intimately examining the private lives of towering public figures like Nina Simone and Marilyn Monroe, Garbus’ films always maintain an uncommonly insightful perspective on her subjects, shedding new light on them that could only come from a singularly talented filmmaker.
The series kicks off on Friday, March 28th with a special double feature screening of Gone Girls Part One and the narrative feature Lost Girls starring Academy Award® nominee Amy Ryan; Garbus will join us for a Q&A between shows, moderated by Aminatou Sow. Then, throughout the weekend, be sure not to miss screenings of Garbus’ previous work, including the Academy Award®-nominated documentary features The Farm: Angola, USA and What Happened, Miss Simone?
