Momose Shorts

All screenings will feature an exclusive, pre-recorded introduction by director Yoshiyuki Momose.
We're thrilled to present this special collection of short films directed by Yoshiyuki Momose, spanning over two decades of his inspired work:
Ghiblies Episode 2
Ghiblies are back!, and we get to see the Ghibli staff eating extra hot curry for lunch and more of Nonaka's first love all in a sequel of one of Studio Ghibli's most unique set of shorts. (25 minutes, in Japanese language with English subtitles)
Judy Jedy
Judy Jedy is a series of three far-out music videos directed by Yoshiyuki Momose and some of the top animators of Studio Ghibli, on behalf of the Japanese electronica band Capsule. In the videos for "Portable Airport," "Space Station No. 9" and "A Flying City Plan", Momose and his team developed a style rarely seen at Studio Ghibli: a bright, CG-inflected, highly-stylized retro-future world inspired by mod fashion and 60's sci-fi television, when anything seemed possible. (10 minutes, no dialogue)
Life Ain't Gonna Lose
Shun is an 8-year-old boy living in Tokyo with a life threatening allergy to eggs. While his mother (Maggie Q) works hard to protect him and lead an ordinary life, Shun has an unexpected encounter with an egg product, and he must begin a race against time to save himself. (16 minutes, in English)
Tomorrow's Leaves
The annual arrival of the message leaf causes concern – something is undeniably wrong. It's usually vibrant and lasting colors quickly fade, and it suddenly withers and crumbles.
Five envoys, from five diverse lands, are dispatched to find out what has happened.
The envoys travel to a distant land, quietly guided by tiny spirits. Each envoy has its own strengths and vulnerabilities. They compete and support each other as they draw closer to their destination, facing treacherous terrain and difficult conditions. Through athletic challenges and the uniting power of sport, they discover the positive fundamental values that come with playful competition.
Together, the envoys approach near the source of the message leaf.
Can they restore life to a future in peril? (9 minutes, in Japanese with English subtitles)
